UPDATE: Rich Campbell reports that Brown got $8.25 million guaranteed at the end of the day.
The Washington Redskins have re-signed 30-year old right tackle Jammal Brown to a five-year contract that is very unique in nature. Brown's deal is for a total of $27.5 million over five years, according to Rich Campbell of the Washington Times. However, only $8 million of that is guaranteed, according to John Keim of the Washington Examiner.
That's a fairly large discrepancy, and it's indicative of the creative way the Redskins can structure these contracts. In contrast to Brown, new defensive lineman Stephen Bowen received the exact same contract, except $12.5 million of his deal was guaranteed.
Brown likely gets less because of his injury history and his age. However, he said he really enjoys playing for Mike Shanahan and valued that relationship in ultimately deciding to return.

The Washington Redskins now have a right tackle on their roster. The team has re-signed Jammal Brown to a five-year contract, according to a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's not immediately clear how much money the contract extension will cost.
Brown came over to the Redskins in a trade from the New Orleans Saints last season for a third-round draft pick. He was converted to right tackle and had a decent season, though he struggled with a hip injury. The Redskins had no right tackle on the roster, so re-signing the 30-year old Brown became a priority. He had plenty of other offers, but chose to stay in D.C.
Brown's signing, along with the signing of Chris Chester and the likely move of either Kory Lichtensteiger to center will mean the Redskins' offensive line is close to complete.
