LaRon Landry Injury Update: Redskins' Safety To Play Vs. Cowboys, According To Report

After some uncertainty early in the week, it looks like LaRon Landry will indeed play for the Washington Redskins in their Monday Night Football showdown against the Dallas Cowboys. The latest Landry injury update comes from Dan Hellie of NBC, who reports that Landry will play for the first time this season after missing two games with a hamstring injury.

LaRon Landry is playing and starting tonight.

Landry originally suffered the hamstring injury while rehabbing from his offseason Achilles injury. He missed the first two regular-season games, but seemed set on playing in the game against the Cowboys. He was listed as a "game-time decision" on Friday's injury report after being limited in practice all week.

The interview was conducted in the Redskins' locker room on Sunday. During the interview, Landry said he felt "great." Cardinals Vs. Redskins Injury Report: LaRon Landry, Brian Orakpo Limited In Practice Wednesday

Two key defensive players for the Washington Redskins were limited in practice on Wednesday before Week 2's game against the Arizona Cardinals, according to coach Mike Shanahan. For one player, LaRon Landry, that is an improvement over his status last week. For Brian Orakpo, it is a downgrade.

Landry missed the team's Week 1 game against the New York Giants with a hamstring injury. He admitted he did practice a bit and that it's "feeling better." His status for Sunday is still unclear. Orakpo, meanwhile, played through an ankle injury on Sunday against the Giants. His status is also unclear for Sunday.

On the bright side, Chris Cooley and Brandon Banks both practiced on Wednesday fully and will have no issues playing on Sunday as of now. Both played last Sunday as well, but were on the injury report leading into the game.

We'll have more on the this game throughout the week in this StoryStream. For more on the Redskins check out Hogs Haven. For more on the Cardinals, head over to Revenge Of the Birds and SB Nation Arizona.

LaRon Landry Injury: Washington Redskins' Safety Ruled Out For Week 1 Vs. Giants

Washington Redskins safety LaRon Landry has finally been ruled out of the team's NFL Week 1 game against the New York Giants with a hamstring injury. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that Landry would be made inactive during a Friday press conference, via John Keim of the Washington Examiner.

Landry had ruled himself out for the game on Wednesday, but Shanahan had been reluctant to make a final call until now. Landry did not practice all week, so it was pretty unlikely that he would play anyway. Now, we know for sure.

Landry had missed all of training camp with an Achilles injury stemming back to last season. Just as that was healed, he suffered a hamstring injury that continues to bother him.

Reed Doughty is expected to start alongside Oshiomogho Atogwe at safety in Landry's absence.

Washington Redskins Injury Report: LaRon Landry Sits Out Practice Again

The latest Washington Redskins injury report is out for the team's Week 1 game against the New York Giants, and LaRon Landry is once again listed as not participating in practice. The Redskins' safety ruled himself out of the game on Wednesday with a hamstring injury, but coach Mike Shanahan declined to do so, saying there was a chance he might end up playing. On Thursday, Shanahan still wouldn't rule him out, but did say it was "unlikely" he would play.

LaRon Landry Injury: Mike Shanahan Doesn't Officially Rule Landry Out, But Takes His Word

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan would not rule safety LaRon Landry out for the Redskins' NFL season opener against the New York Giants, initially saying that he hopes Landry can practice on Thursday. Via Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan:

However, upon being told that Landry himself said he would not play in Week 1, Shanahan backtracked a bit, saying this, via ESPN 980:

"I know exactly what happened. I talked to LaRon. I think LaRon made some statements to you guys. I think you should go by his statements and what he shared with you."

Bottom line: it looks like Landry won't play, but it's not officially official yet.

LaRon Landry Injury: Redskins Safety Confirms He Will Likely Miss Season Opener Vs. Giants

Washington Redskins safety LaRon Landry confirmed he will likely miss the Redskins' NFL Week 1 game against the New York Giants because of a hamstring injury. While he did add "as of now" to his proclamation, it would seem like a shock right now that he would actually play.

Here is his quote, via John Keim of the Washington Examiner:

"As of now, yeah it looks like I'm going to miss it," Landry said of the opener.

Landry was asked about a timetable beyond Sunday's game and said he was taking it "a day at a time." He added that the injury was a setback over the weekend that was revealed in an MRI on Monday.

Landry also apologized for a series of tweets in which he seemingly blamed the Redskins' medical staff for the setback, calling them "unprofessional." He deleted one of those tweets, but another remains on his feed.

LaRon Landry Injury To Sideline Redskins' Safety For Week 1, According To Report

UPDATE: Landry has now said he will miss the game, according to John Keim of the Washington Examiner.

It appears unlikely that the Washington Redskins will have safety LaRon Landry available to play in Week 1 against the New York Giants. Sources tell Mike Jones of the Washington Post that Landry will be made inactive for the game due to his slowly-healing hamstring.

A person with knowledge of the situation said this weekend that Landry likely will miss the start of the season and possibly more time. Tuesday evening, another person close to the situation confirmed that Landry indeed won’t be back on the field in time for the season opener because of the slowly-healing hamstring.

Landry sent out a since-deleted tweet that indicated he had suffered a setback. He had missed time in training camp with an Achilles injury, but just as that healed, he suffered this hamstring problem. Landry declined to speak to reporters at Redskins Park on Monday and will provide an update on his status on Wednesday.

Laron Landry Doesn't Believe He'll Start Season On PUP, Still Unsure About Season Opener

ASHBURN - With the season opener just 13 days away, the Redskins are hoping for their biggest injury concern, safety Laron Landry, to heal from his pulled hamstring.

Landry insisted on Monday that his injury is not serious enough to keep him on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list to start the season. That being said, he is not entirely certain that he will be able start the season opener against the New York Giants.

Head coach Mike Shanahan echoed that sentiment.

"I really don't know [if he'll play in the season opener]," the coach said after practice. "Anytime a guy has a tweaked hamstring, you're always hoping he's going to go. But you don't know. I've seen tweaks take two days, I've seen tweaks take three weeks. I'm not really sure exactly where it's at."

Landry has not practice all preseason, as he's been listed on the PUP list since the first day of training camp. Once he is able to practice again, he'll have to get assimilated with a secondary that features two new starters in cornerback Josh Wilson and free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe.

LaRon Landry Injury To Sideline Redskins' Safety For Preseason Game Vs. Ravens

Just when it looked like LaRon Landry would return to the field, he has been ruled out of Thursday's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Redskins' safety has been battling an Achilles injury dating back to last season.

It's not clear whether Landry's absence is due to the Achilles injury or due to a hamstring injury he suffered that kept him out of practice on Sunday. Either way, his absence this late in the preseason is certainly troubling, especially after the breakout season he was having last year before the Achilles injury took place.

Laron Landry Injury Improving, Redskins' Safety Expects To Return To Field

LaRon Landry's Achilles injury has been an ongoing concern for the Washington Redskins during training camp, with Landry being placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Landry did not have surgery to repair the injury, which was initially suffered midway through last season, and it was slow to respond over the offseason.

But Monday brought some good news from Landry himself. Landry told reporters that he expects to be activated from the PUP list and will play in the team's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on August 25. Via Rich Campbell of the Washington Times:

That means Landry will miss Friday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, but it is still good news for those worried about his status. He was playing at a Pro Bowl level last season before suffering the injury after nine games.
