NFL Cuts 2011: Washington Redskins To Release Malcolm Kelly, According To Report

It looks like this is the finally the end of the road in D.C. for 2008 second-round draft pick Malcolm Kelly. As we near the 4 p.m. deadline for NFL roster cuts to get teams down to 80 players, it appears the Redskins will release Kelly. Rick Maese of the Washington Post has the news.

The Washington Redskins plan to waive oft-injured wide receiver Malcolm Kelly Tuesday afternoon, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The news doesn't come as a surprise. Kelly had suffered another hamstring injury early in camp, and the Redskins are crowded at wide receiver after drafting three in the 2011 NFL Draft. Nevertheless, it's the official end of an era for Kelly, for whom great things were expected after being picked along with Devin Thomas and Fred Davis in the 2008 NFL Draft's second round. Of the three, only Davis is still on the roster, and he remains a backup.
