Peyton Manning: Washington Redskins Interested, But Questions Abound, According To Report

A Washington Post article published Monday morning speculated about a possible Peyton Manning-Washington Redskins marriage. The Post’s Mike Jones quotes an anonymous team official who said that the Redskins, like just about anyone, would like to have Peyton Manning. But there are plenty of ifs. Manning is coming off neck surgery and moreover has not yet been released from the Indianapolis Colts, both potential deal-breakers.

But that doesn’t mean people aren’t talking. The Redskins official said,

No. 1, is he going to be released? No. 2, is he going to be healthy? No. 3, at the end of the day, is he willing to come back and play in the NFL. We don’t know those questions. I think everybody would want Peyton Manning, if he was healthy. You’d be crazy not to want Peyton Manning if he was healthy.

The article goes on to discuss the slim-pickings that is this year’s crop of free agent QBs. Drew Brees is the headliner, but he doesn’t figure to leave New Orleans; Alex Smith is a distant second, and he, too, is likely to re-sign with the 49ers. There is also Green Bay backup Matt Flynn; Kansas City journeyman Kyle Orton; ex-Redskin Jason Campbell; Donovan McNabb and Vince Young.
