The Washington Redskins are potentially facing a significant fine from the NFL for improper handling of quarterback Robert Griffin III's head injury during last week's game.

The Washington Redskins are potentially facing a hefty fine from the NFL for their handling of quarterback Robert Griffin III's head injury last week, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. The league is particularly concerned with the team's initial categorization of the injury, as he was described after leaving the game as being, "shaken up."

In last Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, Griffin took a major hit from linebacker Sean Witherspoon before leaving the game and heading to the locker room. Reports say that the quarterback couldn't identify the score or the quarter immediately after the play, an obvious indication of a possible head injury.

Glazer says that the NFL wants teams to, "immediately acknowledge a head injury to prevent concussed players from getting pushed back on field," but the Redskins didn't take the proper measures. Rather than immediately describe Griffin's head injury, he was labeled as "shaken up" with a questionable return for that game.

The rookie quarterback is expected to play for the Redskins on Sunday afternoon against the Minnesota Vikings, but his injury may still come back to haunt Washington in a different way.
