The Washington Redskins have placed Jammal Brown on injured reserve, ending the offensive tackle's season that never really began. Brown underwent preseason hip surgery and has been on the physically unable to perform list. It looked like he might make it back out onto the field this season when he returned to practice two weeks ago, but he suffered a setback and now his season is done.

In Brown's absence, Washington has started Tyler Polumbus at right tackle. He got off to a rough start, but has been very good over the last month and has given the Redskins some stability on the right side of their line. Now the job appears to be his for the rest of the season.

Brown was an All-Pro with the Saints, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy with the Redskins. He first injured his hip in 2009 and underwent surgery on it then, but it never fully recovered. When it flared up again over the offseason he was told he wouldn't need to be operated on, but that proved to be incorrect and by the time he went under the knife, it was August, so missed games were inevitable. Now that hip will keep him out for the entire season and some are questioning if it could be the end of the 31-year-old's career.
