Panthers vs. Redskins score update: Carolina leads 7-3 after 1st quarter

The Panthers lead the Redskins, 7-3, after the first quarter.

The Carolina Panthers lead the Washington Redskins, 7-3, at the end of the first quarter of Sunday's game.

Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams gave his team the lead with a 30-yard touchdown run up the right side. Williams scored the go-ahead TD with 24 seconds left in the first quarter. The extra point put Carolina up, 7-3.

The Redskins got on the board first when Kai Forbath kicked a 47-yard field goal with 4:20 left in the first quarter. It was Washington's first drive of the game, which went 12 plays for 68 yards.

Robert Griffin III is 4-for-6 for 35 yards so far. Alfred Morris is Washington's leading rusher. Morris has 24 yards on four carries.

Reed Doughty leads the Redskins defense with five total tackles.

Cam Newton is 3-for-7 for 34 yards. Williams is the team's leading rusher, with two carries for 34 yards and a score. Jonathan Stewart has carried the ball four times for 30 yards.
