2013 NFL Playoff picture and scenarios: Redskins would earn No. 4 seed if playoffs started today

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Redskins would earn the NFC's No. 4 seed if the playoff started today, and can even clinch a playoff berth Sunday.

If the 2012 NFL playoffs started today, the Washington Redskins would earn the No. 4 seed and host the No. 5 Seattle Seahawks in the Wild-Card round, according to NFL.com's playoff picture update.

The Redskins (8-6) defeated the Cleveland Browns, 38-21, and now control their own playoff destiny thanks to the New York Giants (8-6) losing to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

If Washington wins out, it will earn the NFC East Division crown and a Wild-Card round home game.

However, the Giants are still in the playoff hunt and can claim the NFC East spot if they win out and the Redskins slip up.

If that happens, the Redskins will need to battle with the Minnesota Vikings (8-6), Chicago Bears (8-6) and Dallas Cowboys (8-6) for the final NFC playoff spot.

Currently, the Falcons (12-2) and San Francisco 49ers (10-3-1) own the NFC's No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively. The Falcons will host the lowest-winning seed from the Wild-Card round.

According to the NFL, the Redskins can clinch a playoff berth in Week 16 if they beat the Eagles, the Giants lose to the Ravens, the Vikings lose to the Texas, and the Bears lose to the Cardinals.
