NFL Free Agency 2012: Washington Redskins Release Oshiomogho Atogwe

With the sudden news of the Redskins losing cap space entering free agency, which starts Tuesday at 4 p.m., the team decided to release saftety Oshiomogho Atogwe on Monday afternoon. The move may have been planned out before news of the NFL's penalty came down, but this does come with some interesting timing.

This is also on the heels of the team announcing officially that they have released fullback Mike Sellers.

The Washington Redskins announced today that they have released safety Oshiomogho Atogwe (pronounced

oh-SHIM-ago uh-TOG-way) and fullback Mike Sellers.

Atogwe completed his seventh season in the NFL and first with the Redskins in 2011. He played in 13 games

with eight starts in 2011, finishing with 66 tackles (43 solo), three interceptions and 0.5 sacks.

In his 11 seasons (1998-2000, 2004-11) with the Redskins, Sellers played in 164 games with 56 starts,

compiling 158 rushing yards on 50 attempts and 1,022 receiving yards on 116 receptions and 19 total

touchdowns.

Sellers played in 12 games in 2011. He finished the season with one reception for 15 yards.

The move frees up $3.4 million in cap space, according to Rich Tandler of Real Redskins.

It should be interesting to see how the rest of the free agency period goes for the Redskins what with all this recent news.
