Former Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis will announce his retirement from the NFL on Thursday.
Clinton Portis, a former Pro Bowl running back for the Washington Redskins, will retire from the NFL, a tweet from the Redskins organization confirmed Tuesday. Portis, a member of the Redskins organization from 2004-10, will hold a press conference Thursday at 2:30 p.m. ET at Redskins Park to make his retirement official.
During his seven-year tenure in Washington, Portis compiled 6,824 rushing yards and scored 46 of his career 74 touchdowns. Portis will retire just 77 yards away of 10,000.
Portis' career began with the Denver Broncos, who selected him in the second round of the '02 Draft. He spent two years in the Mile High City before being traded to the Redskins in a blockbuster deal involving corner back Champ Bailey. In '04, '05, '07 and '08, the former University of Miami tailback rushed over 1,200 yards.
Portis' Redskins career will probably most be remembered by his hard-running style and outspoken and sometimes zany press conferences.
