The defensive back is heading to Detroit for an unknown return.
Barnes, a 2009 third-round draft pick out of the University of Maryland, had two tackles in the Redskins most recent preseason game, a 30-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

2011 was the strongest season of Barnes' career, setting career highs by playing 15 games and pulling down two interceptions while getting in on 26 tackles.
