The Washington Redskins signed former Green Bay Packers RB Ryan Grant to help bolster an injured unit of running backs.

The Washington Redskins signed former Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant on Tuesday, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL.com. Grant had offers from multiple teams and worked out for the Bears earlier in the day, but ultimately decided to sign with Washington.

The Redskins need Grant, with backup running backs Evan Royster and Roy Helu banged up. Royster is day-to-day with a strained patella tendon and Helu is suffering from turf toe. With those two injured, starter Alfred Morris is the only healthy running back on the roster.

Grant played the last five seasons with the Packers, rushing for over 1,000 yards in both 2008 and 2009. Last season Grant rushed for 559 yards and two touchdowns and added 268 yards and a touchdown on 19 receptions. Redskins beat reporter Grant Paulsen reports that Grant will sign his contract on Tuesday night without having had a workout with the Redskins.
