Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather will miss two to four weeks after spraining his left knee in practice on Monday. Mike Shanahan indicated it was an MCL and PCL sprain. Meriweather injured the same knee on a Michael Bush touchdown run during the Skins second preseason game in Chicago. An MRI after that game revealed no severe or structural damage but he did sit out the rest of the preseason.

The injury is a big blow to the Redskins secondary as they prepare for the season opener against the high-powered passing attack of the Saints. Meriweather had been one of the two starting safeties throughout training camp and the first two preseason games. Safety Tanard Jackson has already been suspended for the season due to another violation of the league's substance abuse policy. Washington veteran Reed Doughty was listed behind Meriweather on this week's depth chart, and he'll likely get the bulk of the work alongside Madieu Williams.
