Wizards Vs. Kings: Washington Holds On Against Sacramento As They Win 136-133 In OT

Well, this one took longer than expected, but the Wizards got it done.

The Wizards beat the Sacramento Kings 136-133 in overtime in what was an exhausting game where every time it looked like the Kings were dead, they came right back to life.

Washington held large leads in this game, particularly early. The Wizards were up as many as 20 in the first half, but allowed the Kings to get right back in the game.

The Kings took the lead into halftime, but in the second half, the Wizards assumed control yet again. Shooting guard Nick Young had a huge day, and his career high 43 points paced the Wizards lead in the second half. It looked like the Wizards would simply salt away the final seconds of the game in regulation.

But the Kings started a maddening late game sequence. Washington led the Kings by 6 with 13 seconds left in regulation. But because of missed free throws (including a key miss by Nick Young), turnovers, and the Kings hitting quick shots, Sacramento was able to tie the game and force overtime, much to the frustration of Flip Saunders and Wizards fans.

However, in the overtime, the Wizards were able to finish the job. Point guard John Wall appeared to have an injury early in the period, which forced him to miss the final few minutes of overtime. In his stead, veteran Kirk Hinrich showed why his veteran presence is valuable. Hinrich hit several key shots late in the period and made a huge steal in the final seconds to seal the win for the Wizards.

Five Washington players have double digit point totals, highlighted by Youngs 43. Despite his late injury, Wall finished with 22 points and 9 assists.
