2011 NBA Draft: Slimmed-Down Austin Freeman Works Out For Washington Wizards

Stay connected for news and updates

Georgetown shooting guard Austin Freeman was the headliner at the second batch of Washington Wizards workouts on Sunday, leading a group that also featured Penn State' Talor Battle, Indiana's Mike Davis, SMU's Papa Dia, Tulsa's Justin Hurtt and Mississippi State's Ravern Johnson. Freeman was the story because he looked way slimmer than he did at Georgetown.

As it turned out, the Georgetown guard has a lot of weight since the end of the season. Via Gene Wang of the Washington Post:

Austin Freeman says he's lost 20 pounds, and it sure looked that way in today's #Wizards predraft workout. #Hoyas

Freeman's playing weight last season was 235 pounds, which means he's now probably in the 215 range. That's going to be essential for him, because the big knock pro scouts have is that he lacks athleticism.

As of right now, Freeman is not even listed in the latest Draft Express 2011 NBA Mock Draft, but if he continues to show off his newfound quickness, he could find his way into the second round.
