Nick Young Wants Wizards To Draft Jan Vesely, Pegs Jan Vesely's Game Wrong

Stay connected for news and updates

ESPN the Magazine does this fun little thing where they ask a current player on each NBA team to identify the guy they believe their team should pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. The Wizards' representative in this exercise was shooting guard Nick Young, who said the Wizards should take Czech forward Jan Vesely with the No. 6 pick. Young then described a fictional player who is not really Jan Vesely.

"A 6-11 combo forward who can shoot the ball and do so many other things? Oh yeah, we'll take him!" says guard Nick Young about the hardworking Euro. "I've seen some highlights, and he battles. We can even put him at center when we go small. We're gonna need him."

In domestic play this season, Vesely shot 28.2 percent from the field and 54.2 percent from the free-throw line. In Euroleague play, those numbers were 33.3 percent and 43.8 percent, respectively. He mostly plays small forward in those games, and if he is a center, then Dirk Nowitzki is a center, and Dirk Nowitzki is not a center.

Vesely has plenty of positive attributes, but almost every scout in the world believes many of the ones Young described are actually weaknesses. Oh well. Young is paid to play, not evaluate.
