Wizards Vs. Knicks Recap: Washington Crushed By 38 Points In New York

The Washington Wizards were absolutely blown out on Friday night, losing by nearly 40 points to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks are playing improved ball as they make a push for the playoffs, looking to shore up a spot at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. And they gave the Wizards little hope on Friday, smothering Washington on defense from the jump, and taking a 26-13 lead after the first quarter. They would not look back from there, extending the lead in each subsequent quarter for a 103-65 win.

But it wasn't all New York defense, as the Wizards were quite inept with little help from he opponent. Washington shot a woeful 28 percent from the floor while also committing 21 turnovers. They had only three players in double figures, led by Jordan Crawford with 17 points. But, partaking in the theme of the night, Crawford was still just 6 of 20 from the floor. John Wall scored only eight points and turned it over nearly as many times, with 7 giveaways. New York, meanwhile, drilled nearly 50 percent of their threes to blow Randy Wittman's club off the floor.

Licking their wounds, the Wizards have little time to recover but they will face a Cleveland team on Saturday night that's struggling mightily down the stretch and playing without several key players.

Wizards Vs. Knicks Score Update: Washington Offense Ugly In 1st Quarter, Trail By 21 At Half

The Washington Wizards are running into a buzz saw on Friday night at Madison Square Garden, as the New York Knicks are determined to continue their playoff push and clinch a spot in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks jumped all over the Wizards in the first quarter, doubling them up at 26-13. They then took 21-point lead into the locker room at half, shooting 50 percent from the floor while Washington shooting at a miserable 25 percent clip.

Roger Mason and Jordan Crawford were the only Washington players in double figures, with Mason chipping in 11 points off the bench. There have been few other bright spots on the offensive end for Washington, however, as John Wall was just one of seven from the floor. As a team, they committed ten turnovers. The Wizards will need to shoot the lights out in the third quarter to make up for the ugly first 12 minutes, if they want to have a shot down the stretch.

Wizards Schedule 2012: Washington Hosts Cleveland After Friday's Game in New York

The Washington Wizards get only a few hours off after their Friday night game against the New York Knicks. Saturday night, the Wizards host the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Verizon Center. The two teams have only played once this season with the Wizards winning 101-98 on March 3.

Jordan Crawford scored 31 points in that game while John Wall added 24 points. The defense had to contend with former Wizard Antawn Jamison's 29 points and Kyrie Irving's 20 points to win at home.

The complexion of the Wizards has changed since that game. Both JaVale McGee and Nick Young were traded at the deadline. Nene Hilario has been helpful for the Wizards as the season has been dwindling to a close. Even though he has had some injury problems, the Wizards have been competitive in most of the games since the trade.

The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. with television coverage provided by Comcast Sports Network.
