Andray Blatche, now a free agent after being amnestied by the Washington Wizards this offseason, will meet with the Brooklyn Nets this weekend. Via ESPNNewYork.com:
Looking to explore all of their options, Nets coach Avery Johnson will meet with Blatche sometime over the weekend, league sources confirmed.
Both Johnson and Blatche are living in the Houston area during the offseason, which makes it easy for them to meet with one another.
Blatche was drafted 49th in the 2005 NBA draft and averaged 9.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in his time in Washington. The Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs have also expressed interest in the talented but much-maligned 6'11" power forward.

The Washington Wizards cut ties with the enigmatic and frustrating Andray Blatche three weeks ago, designating him as the team's amnesty player under the NBA's new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Now a free agent, it appears despite his spotty past, big time NBA teams are interested in perhaps the flashes of promise Blatche showed at times in his career in Washington. Via Mark Stein of ESPN:

The Washington Wizards have released the following statement, officially announcing that forward Andray Blatche has been designated as the team's amnesty player.
Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has waived forward Andray Blatche and has designated him as the team's amnesty player. Under the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement, the amnesty provision allows the Wizards to remove the remainder of Blatche's contract from the team's salary cap.
"Andray did not figure into our future plans, and using the amnesty provision is a mutually beneficial opportunity for us to part ways," said Grunfeld. "We will be able to continue to develop our core group of young players, blend in the solid veterans we have acquired and maintain financial flexibility while Andray will be able to get a fresh start with another team. We wish him the best moving forward."
Blatche averaged 9.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in 409 career games with the Wizards. He was originally acquired as second round selection (49th overall) in the 2005 NBA Draft.
Blatche was owed $23.4 million over the next three seasons, including $7.1 million in 2012-13. If a team claims Blatche off waivers, his salary with that team will be subtracted from whatever amount the Wizards owe him.

The Washington Wizards have amnestied power forward/center Andray Blatche, according to a report from CSN Wizards beat reporter Chris Miller.
"It's 'official," Miller tweeted Tuesday afternoon, "the Wizards have amnestied Andray Blatche per a source."
The tweet comes on the heels of Monday's report from the Washington Post's Michael Lee, which, citing sources, said the Wizards were "inclined to designate Andray Blatche as their amnesty player." Tuesday remains the deadline for teams to amnesty a player. Using the amnesty clause on Blatche would reportedly shave roughly $23 million off the team's payroll over the course of the next three seasons.
Last season, Blatche, a 6-foot-11, 260-pound big man, averaged 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, as Washington finished 20-46 in the lockout-shortened regular season. Blatche has played for the Wizards over his entire seven-year career since being drafted by the team in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft.

Barring some late breaking trade, the Washington Wizards appear poised to use the amnesty clause on forward Andray Blatche. Michael Lee of The Washington Post cited league sources in a Monday afternoon report on the Wizards' thinking regarding Blatche.
Barring a last-minute trade, #wizards are inclined to designate Andray Blatche as their amnesty player, according to league sources

The deadline for using the amnesty clause is Tuesday, July 17, giving the Wizards slightly less than 24 hours to find a trade partner.
Blatche has fallen out of favor with the team's brass as well as the fans. Using the amnesty clause would remove more than $23 million off the payroll over the next three seasons. Whether or not another team will take a flyer on him if Washington does go the amnesty route remains to be seen.

The Washington Wizards have been mulling over whether or not to use their amnesty clause on forward Andray Blatche. If the team decides to use amnesty on Blatche, it would save the team from having to pay the remaining $23 million on his contract. The Wizards are still undecided on what to do however, according to a report by David Aldridge of NBA.com.
The Washington Wizards are still undecided about whether to use the amnesty provision on one of the top league-wide candidates, forward Andray Blatche, according to sources. Washington is exploring several options for Blatche, who has fallen out of favor both with fans in D.C. and with the organization after signing a contract extension in 2010 that reworked his existing contract into a five-year deal worth $35 million.
If the Wizards opt for amnesty, as mentioned it would clear money off of their books and open up salary for potential extensions to younger players like John Wall. The problem with slapping Blatche with the amnesty clause would be stroking that $23 million check that owner Ted Leonsis would have to write.

ESPN's Marc Stein reports that the Washington Wizards are giving "renewed consideration" to releasing Andray Blatche through the amnesty clause to avoid paying $23 million to the power forward.
