Annapolis, MD (Sports Network) - Alexander Teich scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Navy Midshipmen battled back to claim a 28-21 win over the SMU Mustangs in non-conference action at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Teich finished the day with 21 carries for a game-high 95 yards for the Midshipmen (4-2) as they won their second straight and the third in the last four outings. Quarterback Ricky Dobbs converted 6-of-9 passes for 84 yards and a score as well for the home team.
The Mustangs (4-3) were paced by quarterback Kyle Padron who completed 28- of-42 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns, his favorite target being Darius Beasley who caught a game-high 12 balls for 104 yards and a score.
Beasley scored the only points of the first quarter between the squads as he hit the end zone on a five-yard pass from Padron to put the Mustangs ahead by a 7-0 score. SMU moved out to a 14-0 advantage in the second when Padron hooked up with Johnson on a four-yard scoring strike, leaving the academy with the two-touchdown deficit at the break.
The Midshipmen scored three straight touchdowns in the second half, beginning with a three-yard TD strike from Dobbs to Aaron Santiago. Later in the third frame Gee Gee Greene crossed the goal line from a yard away to make the score 14-14 heading into the final quarter.
At the 12:52 mark of the final period Teich capped a five-play, 31-yard drive with a two-yard TD run, giving Navy its first lead of the day at 21-14.
Later in the quarter Padron guided the visitors on a 57-yard drive that took 10 plays and ate up more than five minutes on the clock, culminating with a 10-yard scoring pass to Aldrick Robinson, locking the score at 21-21 with 2:51 left in regulation.
An interception by the Navy defense gave the academy a short field in the final minutes and Teich used it to finish off the Mustangs with his four-yard TD run
