EagleBank Bowl Renamed To 'Military Bowl'

When the NCAA decided to bring a bowl game to Washington D.C. three years ago, it was done to have some ties to a) the city and b) the armed forces. Of course, that was before EagleBank bought the rights to the game, and since then, it's hard to tell where that armed forces connection went.

But that may be changing. According to the event's Facebook page, the EagleBank Bowl has officially changed its name to the Military Bowl. Via Patrick Stevens of D1Scourse:

The Dec. 29 game at RFK Stadium is now the Military Bowl according to the event's Facebook page. It will pit the No. 8 selection out of the ACC against a Conference USA team. Northrup Grumman will be the presenting sponsor.

The game does have a military tie-in -- Navy played in the game in 2008, and Army would have played last year if they were bowl-eligible -- but now it's very clear that the game has military implications. Last year, UCLA beat Temple in the game. Now, it appears there will be a legitimate local and military connection to the game.
