On Sunday, the 35th Marine Corps Marathon will take place throughout the District of Columbia and northern Virginia. The race begins on the Jefferson Davis Highway in Arlington, weaves its way into D.C. and around the monuments and back into Virginia, finishing right around the same place it started.

The event was won last year by John Mentzner, who finished with a time 2:21:47. Mentzner breaks down the marathon course in a series of features on CSN. It's an interesting look at the course from the perspective of someone who knows it best. For the nonathletic among us like myself, this is the closest I will ever come to running a marathon. You can find the two pieces here and here.

There are a lot of things on Halloween Sunday that it would be appropriate to wear a costume to, but the Marine Corps Marathon is probably not one of them. We'll have updates about the race as they become available on Sunday.
