Maryland Beats Duke To Start Off Right In A.C.C. Play

College Park, MD (Sports Network) - Danny O'Brien threw for 170 yards and one touchdown as he helped lead the Maryland Terrapins to a 21-16 win over the Duke Blue Devils in ACC action at Byrd Stadium.

O'Brien converted just 9-of-26 passes on the night for the Terrapins (4-1, 1-0 ACC) as they won their second straight outing. Davin Meggett contributed a game-high 57 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries coming out of the backfield as well.

The Blue Devils (1-4, 0-2) were led by Sean Renfree who converted 28-of-56 passes for 351 yards and a score, but he was also picked off twice and sacked four times in the losing cause.

Duke kicker Will Snyderwine converted three field goal attempts in the first half, ranging from 20, 34 and 40 yards to give the Blue Devils a 9-0 advantage midway through the second quarter.

A three-yard TD run by Maryland's Meggett with 1:12 remaining in the first half cut the deficit to 9-7 at the break.

Minutes into the second half Tony Logan returned a punt 84 yards for a touchdown for the Terps, giving the home team a 14-9 edge. O'Brien's 71-yard scoring strike to Da'Rel Scott moments into the fourth period pushed the advantage to 21-9.

Renfree's two-yard scoring pass to Brandon King at the 7:20 mark of the fourth made the score 21-16, but that's as close as the visitors were able to get as they finished the evening a mere 4-of-16 on third down.
