Highly-Touted DeMatha Big Man Mikael Hopkins Chooses Georgetown

For the longest time, Georgetown wasn't able to recruit any players from DeMatha. If this seems surprising, it's because it is. However, that changed recently with Austin Freeman, and now, it's changing again.

Apparently, the Hoyas have secured a commitment from highly ranked DeMatha big man Mikael Hopkins. DeMatha coach Mike Jones announced the news on his Twitter account.

Hopkins is rated as the 79th player nationally according to Rivals.com, so he's a big deal regardless of the fact that he came from DeMatha. However, the DeMatha connection is significant due to the past animosity between former DeMatha coach Morgan Wooten and John Thompson Sr, detailed in this piece by Ballin' Is A Habit. Freeman paved the way, but Hopkins could signal the real breakthrough in mending the relationship between Georgetown and DeMatha.
