Maryland Will Participate In 2011 Puerto Rico Classic

For the seventh consecutive season, the Maryland Terrapins will play in a preseason-exempt tournament. The Terps have officially signed up to play in the Puerto Rico Classic next season, according to Patrick Stevens of D1Scourse and a Puerto Rico Classic press release.

Maryland is one of the headliners of the tournament, and they will be joined by Temple, Purdue, Alabama, Colorado, Wichita State, Iona and a team to be named later. The bracket-style tournament will take place from November 17-20, 2011, with games Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

This will be Maryland's first trip to Puerto Rico since winning the San Juan Shootout in 1998. Maryland has now played in a preseason-exempt tournament every year since 2005. This year, they are currently competing in the Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic. Last season, the Terps participated in the Maui Invitational, going 1-2. They defeated Chaminade in the first round before losing to Cincinnati in the semifinals and to Wisconsin in the third-place game.
