The George Mason Patriots aren't supposed to lose to small liberal arts schools like Wofford College. The two teams met in the third place game of the Charleston Classic, and that's exactly what happened.
The Wofford Terriers forced the game into overtime with 17 seconds remaining in regulation off a jump shot by Jamar Diggs, and went on to win the game in the added time as Diggs added 11 more overtime points to give him a game high and career high total of 22 points.
The overtime session was back-and-forth, and the Patriots pulled to within two points with five seconds left as Ryan Pearson tipped in a missed three-point attempt by Cam Long. But the Patriots could not steal the ball away from the Terriers, and they fell to 2-2 on the year.
Luke Hancock led George Mason with 17 points. Forward Mike Morrison contributed seven points and nine rebounds.
The Patriots will return to action on Wednesday night against Radford in the first matchup of a five-game home stand in Fairfax, VA.
