BB&T Classic: American University, George Washington, Navy, Maryland In Action Today

The BB&T Classic is about to kick off at Verizon Center, and this year the annual triple-header will feature three local universities.

American University will get the festivities underway at 2:45 PM against the No. 16 Florida Gators. The 5-2 Eagles are coming off a loss to West Virginia last week, and will be a major underdog again today.

The second game of the Classic will start at 5:15 PM, and features two local programs who are off to poor starts to the 2010 season. The George Washington Colonials have played in this tournament every year since its founding in 1995, and has had some success at the Verizon Center. The team will look to improve on its 2-4 start while meeting the Navy Midshipmen, who already have six losses this season.

To cap off the night, the Maryland Terrapins will face a tough matchup against Temple. The Owls are off to a 4-2 start that includes an early win against Georgia in the Old Spice Classic. Like GW, Maryland is no stranger to the BB&T Classic, but the Terrapins have suffered losses in this event in four of the previous five years.

All three games will be broadcast locally on MASN.
