The Stephen Strasburg debut is the hardest ticket to get a hold of in town right now, but those that though the tickets were hot before the season started – season ticket holders – are being offered a great deal for next Tuesday’s debut.
Those who own season tickets can buy up to four additional tickets for June 8, when Strasburg will start, barring injury or weather issues.
The sale starts Wednesday at 10 a.m. and will run through Thursday according to the Washington Post’s Adam Kilgore. The team also announced a flex plan in conjunction with New Era that allows anyone that buys a ticket for Strasburg’s debut, along with tickets to any two additional Nat’s game, a free New Era cap as well as an additional free ticket to another upcoming game (except the Strasburg debut, obviously).
Both of those deals are pretty outstanding considering the research that the D.C. Sports Bog’s Dan Steinberg did today.
As I type this, StubHub is listing 3,207 tickets for the June 8 game — about 7.6 percent of the total inventory for the Nats’ 41,888-seat venue. When I first checked Tuesday morning, there were only around 2,500 listed tickets, meaning more than 700 additional tickets were dumped online in just a few hours.
The cheapest listed seats will run you about $60, and as of this morning the average price fans were paying was $74, according to a StubHub spokesman. This includes fans who purchased tickets for as little as $9 several months ago; at the top range, Presidential Seats have gone for as much as $500 thus far.
While this all seems crazy for someone that has never played in the big leagues, Nationals’ fans might have to get used to it because it could all happen again when Bryce Harper makes his debut.
