Why Is Placido Polanco Beating Ryan Zimmerman In All-Star Voting?

Here in D.C., we understand how great Ryan Zimmerman is. Smart people elsewhere also understand how great Ryan Zimmerman is. Unfortunately, it appears that the rest of the world hasn't caught on.

MLB.com released their weekly All-Star voting update, and Zimmerman isn't even among the top five vote-getters at his position. Worse, the guy leading the pack is ... Placido Polanco of the Phillies. Don't believe me. Look for yourself (via Nationals Enquirer).

Worse, because of the emergence of Stephen Strasburg, Zimmerman might not be the guy who would be the Nationals' designated all-star after fan voting. Therefore, the only way Zimmerman can make it could be for the manager to choose two Nationals. The manager is Philadelphia's Charlie Manuel, so I don't see that happening.

The Nationals' response? They continue to promote a campaign to get Zimmerman into the All-Star game. Oh wait, that's Ivan Rodriguez's campaign, not Zimmerman's. Sigh.
