A new song by Dr. Dre and Jay-Z titled "Under Pressure" was leaked on-line today and with Jay-Z's first verse on the track he comes out guns blazing. Jay-Z name checks none other than Washington Wizards' guard Gilbert Arenas and references last season's, now infamous, locker room firearms standoff with Javaris Crittenton. Via MTV Online:
"Dre, I think I need my sponsor," he says. "Trying to grow, but I just can't seem ta/ Having trouble cleaning up like FEMA/ All these little haters got me back with the nina/ Got me bringing guns to work, Gilbert Arenas."
For clarification's sake, if you didn't know what a "nina" is it refers to a 9mm pistol. Nevertheless, I don't know about you but I think this verse is a little weak. Coming from a giant in the rap game like Jay-Z, I really would expect more, especially with material as ripe for the picking as the Arenas gun scandal. I mean, rhyming "nina" with "Arenas" is a quite a stretch of the English language.
Final thoughts. Can Jay-Z get fined by the NBA for discussing a player under contract with another team since he is a part owner of the New Jersey Nets? Also, will Gilbert respond with a verse of his own about Jay-Z? I hope so. I smell a rap battle coming!
