Greg Monroe Selected Seventh Overall By Detroit Pistons

Greg Monroe has become the first area college hoops star to be selected in the 2010 NBA Draft, going seventh overall to the Detroit Pistons.

There was speculation for a while that Monroe would go sixth to Golden State, although reports today came out that the Warriors preferred Ekpe Udoh, whom they ultimately selected tonight.

Monroe is listed at 6-foot-11 and 247 pounds. The big man, who has been eyed by NBA scouts since high school, averaged 16.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists during his sophomore season at Georgetown.

He will join a Pistons team that went 27-55 last season, missing the playoffs for the first time in nine years.
