Video: Kuznetsov "Wasn't Expecting" To Be Drafted By Capitals, But "Very Happy" To Be In D.C.

SB Nation has been providing outstanding coverage of the NHL Draft over at the main site and will continue to do so throughout the weekend. They have been getting some oustanding video from the Staples Center of some of this year's top picks, including the newest Capital, Evgeny Kuznetsov:

Among the highlights in the video:

  • Kuznetsov stuck true to his native language of Russian throughout the press conference, unlike Kevin Seraphin.
  • Most mock drafts projected him to go between picks 10-20 in this years draft. Understandably, he said "To be absolutely honest, [I] wasn't expecting it, but [I'm] very happy to be a part of this organization."
  • He currently has two years left on his contract with his KHL team, Chelyabinsk. According to Tarik El-Bashir, the buyout for his contract is "not significant."
  • When asked what NHL players he compared himself to, he said that he doesn't try to compare himself with anyone in league yet, but said he does try to model his game after Evgeni Malkin and Pavel Datsyuk.
