Stephen Strasburg Is So Big, He Could Change A Town's Name

New, 1 comment

What do you get when you combine the hype for Stephen Strasburg with the power of the Internet? You get something like this

What is that? It's a movement by some residents of Strasburg, Virginia to rename the city "Stephen Strasburg, Virginia" if Strasburg ever graces the town with his presence. The city is located 90 miles from DC, so it's a bit of a trek, but certainly not an impossible drive, at least before DC traffic is factored in.

More details below the jump:

Here's the movement's full pitch to Stephen Strasburg, from their web site.

1. On June 8, 2010 the town of Strasburg, VA plans honor Stephen with a "Pride of Strasburg Recognition" Award
2. The Strasburg town council will also draft a resolution to rename the town "Stephen Strasburg, Virgina" should Mr. Strasburg decide to visit the town situated less than 90 miles away sometime this year
3. Upon which the newly named town would welcome Stephen into town on the back of a firetruck and honor him with a welcoming parade and police escort
4. We also invite Mr. Strasburg to throw out the first pitch to our new traveling little league team which would henceforth be known as the "Stephen" Strasburgs

I think my favorite part is the Little League team. Maybe we'll finally get our dream matchup between the "Stephen" Strasburgs and the "Richard" Hamiltons

UPDATE: Apparently, there's a town called Stephens City just 13 minutes away from Strasburg. There's definitely some potential for some cross-marketing here.
