Nats Announcing Not As Terrible As You Think

Take this with a grain of salt if you will, but GQ, a fine reviewer of men's fashion, has taken a shot at ranking the best and worst of baseball's announcing teams. Now, I know that this will shock you, but the team of Rob Dibble and Bob Carpenter were rated the fifth worst in the Majors:

Carpenter is a veteran broadcaster, but paired with Dibble, he seems to have forgotten his training, as both he and Dibble are unrepentant homers—Dibble more so—embracing the Nats in first-person terms ("our hitters," etc.). But it doesn't end there. After a great catch by the opposition, Dibble growls, "You gotta be kidding me," like he's looking for a fight.

I find it shocking that it is the unrepentant homerism that so rankles GQ. Homerism is a schtick that has kept announcers like Tommy Heinsohn employed for the last twenty years. It's the pet nicknames that should really send a fan over the moon. The "Zimmenator?" Really?
