Morning Commute: Two Teams, Same Strategy, Same Owner

Everything you need to know about D.C. Sports in one place.

On Day 1 of NBA free agency, the Wizards did nothing. On Day 1 of NHL free agency, the Capitals did nothing (until this). The two teams are in completely different situations (the Wizards are rebuilding, the Capitals are not), but they employed the same strategy off the bat.

Not that this is surprising, mind you. Both teams are owned by Ted Leonsis, who has been very vocal about not splurging in free agency. I just think it's striking how much he sticks to this philosophy even though his teams are in very different situations.

That's all.

Today's must-reads around the SB Nation network:

  • Federal Baseball talks about the return of Elijah Dukes ... to the Independent League's Newark Bears.
  • Why are Redskins fans confident that the team will take the hard line with Albert Haynesworth? Because GM Bruce Allen has done so with a player before, writes Hogs Haven.
  • Black and Red United talks about D.C. United's decision to sign Pablo Hernandez on loan.
On tap at SB Nation DC: It's Friday! Enjoy your holiday weekend!
