Chad Cordero Reunites With Omar Minaya, Signs With Mets

Chad Cordero always holds a special place in Nationals' fans hearts for his amazing 2005 season, when he led the NL with 47 saves and helped improbably keep the Nationals in first place for half the season. Recently, he's fallen on hard times thanks to injury, but he hasn't given up his hopes of coming back to the Majors. The Mariners gave him a chance earlier in the year, but recently let him go, putting his comeback hopes in jeopardy.

Luckily, an old friend has come calling. According to FOX Sports, the Mets have signed Cordero to a minor league contract. The Mets GM, of course, is Omar Minaya, who drafted Cordero back in 2003 and was the guy in charge in 2005. The Mets need bullpen help, and it sounds like Cordero really believes he can provide it.

I'll be rooting for him, even if he's playing for a division rival now.
