Trent Williams' Sleep-Deprived Mixed Metaphors

We've heard enough athletes talk after practices or games to the point where we're probably desensitized to them not correctly using a metaphor.

At the same time, some cases are particularly amusing. Take Trent Williams, for example. As previously noted,Williams basically played today on no sleep because he and his agents were busy hashing out his new contract. When a normal human being is working on no sleep, their brain loses concentration more easily. Williams is not a normal human being, but even his head wanders when he's tired. Case in point:

Perhaps because of his lack of sleep, Williams created new metaphors by botching his cliches. He said he had been "nipping at the bit" to get to camp and credited teammate Brian Orakpo for giving advice on "the loopholes that all rookies face."

I guess it's safe to say there's no open and shut rule for what makes a metaphor these days.
