Inside One Of Mike Shanahan's Favorite Plays

Sorry Mike and Kyle Shanahan, but the secret is out on how one of the plays your teams run always works. Don't even try to use this play again, because it won't work.

Okay, I'm kidding. But seriously, if you're a true football fan, you have to check out Matt Bowen's latest "Inside the Playbook" article on National Football Post. Today, Bowen broke down the Redskins' swap boot, a Shanahan staple that he unveiled a couple times in last weekend's preseason game against the Bills. Bowen describes the play as follows:

Most of us had a version of some sort of boot action going back to our high school playbooks. Roll the QB away from the backfield action and force the defense to over pursue to the run fake. The "Swap Boot" is along the same theory, only in this case, the FB and the closed side (or strong side) TE are the underneath reads coming back across the field.

He then follows it with an unbelievably comprehensive breakdown that I'm still digesting. Check it out here.
