Patrick Stevens of D1scourse passes along news that Ben Pooler, who started five games at linebacker for the Terrapins last season, has likely torn his ACL, which if true, would undoubtedly end his 2010 season before it begins. Pooler had 43 tackles in his sophomore season and was expected to be a key contributor for the Terrapins this season.
This wouldn't be the first time Pooler has dealt with knee injuries during his time at Maryland. Pooler also suffered knee injuries as a freshman in 2007 and a redshirt freshman 2008.
Ralph Friedgen had this to say to Eric Prisbell after practice this afternoon:
"It is tough for both of us," Friedgen said. "It hurts our team. The positions we were deep at we are starting to get thin at."
According to Stevens, Adrian Moten, Alex Wujciak and Demetrius Hartsfield will be the likely starters at linebacker for Maryland this season, with Darin Drakeford, David Mackall and Ryan Donohue filling in as backups.
