The news that Stephen Strasburg may need Tommy John surgery has sent a shock wave through Washington sports media. The reactions have ranged from cynical, to pessimistic, to morose. Obviously, we will all take a few minutes before we collect ourselves and opine on what this means for the Nationals going forward. At least in this our darkest hour, we can focus our rage on our true enemy: Rob Dibble.
Here is how the blogosphere is reacting on the darkest of days:
(Warning! Strong language ahead! Avert your eyes if easily offended!)
The reaction of almost everyone...
Fuck this. I'm going home to drink.
The reaction of Wizards fans...
For the love of all things good: someone hide John Wall right now before he steps off a curb and gets hit by a bus or something....
Word play!
Curse of Le Bowden
Run him out of town on a rail!
What would Dibble like to say now?
Commiseration....
Strasburg probably out for 2011, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin in town for the weekend. DC, my heart goes out to you. This is your Katrina.
The real culprit...
This is all Tony Gwynn's fault! #strasburg
Analysis!
So if June 8 was #Strasmas, what is August 27? #Straspocalypse ? #Strasgoddamnit ? #Straskillmenow ?
Sympathy!
I remember how distraught I felt when a rookie Spencer Hawes had his knee scoped. And that was Spencer Hawes. #sorrydc
Dire Warning!
I wouldn't want to be Rob Dibble today.
More anger!
When the docs are repairing Strasburg, let's hope they stitch up Dibble's mouth, too. #nationals
Here is one for the emotionless robots out there...
Is Stephen Strasburg dead or just getting surgery?
and to close it out...
The upside of Strasburg needing Tommy John? "Suck it up, kid" to be engraved on Dibble's tombstone.
