Opposing Captains With Familiar Faces

When the Redskins captains made their way to midfield prior to their game against the Jets last night, they saw a few familiar faces.

Laveranues Coles, Mark Brunell, and Jason Taylor.

The popular theory was that the Jets sent three former Redskins players out to call the coin toss as a bit of a mind game against the Redskins, but I don't quite buy into that. Afterall, it's not like any of these three guys have done much of anything since leaving Washington. Coles has only come close to eclipsing his 2003 numbers of 1,204 yards and 91 receptions once with the Jets. And Brunell has appeared in only one game since departing D.C.

It's not like these guys have shined everywhere but Washington. We're not talking about Ryan Clark or Champ Bailey here. We're talking about Mark freakin' Brunell. Why would anybody expect him to intimidate us?

So was it just a coincidence then that the Jets chose three former Redskins as their captains? We may need to wait until the next episode of Hark Knocks to find out.
