It's almost September, and that means that 15 new players can be added to Major League rosters. Normally, these spots are reserved for young players, but there was a chance that 44-year old Orlando Hernandez (yes, that El Duque) would be one of the players the Nationals would call up. The team signed him to a minor league contract earlier this summer, which is pretty funny if you think about it.
↵But alas, it wasn't meant to be. The Patriot-News is reporting that El Duque has suddenly decided to end his season, which apparently "shocked" the Nationals. Some sources say Hernandez left because he was upset the team didn't offer him a Major League contract after he helped facilitate the signing of Cuban product Yunesky Maya, something Nationals Director of Player Development Doug Harris disputed.
↵Either way, NatsTown's dreams of seeing the future of the team just went up in smokes. What a shame.
