Malcolm Kelly Will Be Placed On Injured Reserve

A frustrating preseason of injuries for Malcolm Kelly has resulted in what will literally be a lost season. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan just told the assembled media that Kelly will be played on injured reserve, according to Dan HellieMike JonesRyan O'HalloranJohn KeimGrant PaulsenChris RussellRedskins Insider and others.

This means Kelly will not play all season. It remains unclear just how severe his hamstring injury is, but the Redskins may have had no choice if they wanted to retain his rights without using a roster spot. By not placing him on the Physically Unable To Perform List, the Redskins left themselves with only three choices: cut Kelly, keep Kelly on the active roster or place him on injured reserve. They chose to place him on injured reserve.
