Russ Grimm And John Riggins: Bullseye

I was driving home from the office today thinking that it would be a good idea to write something on Russ Grimm entering the Hall of Fame tomorrow night. I had my radio tuned in to 106.7 The Fan as always when the big man himself called in to the LaVar Arrington Show with Chad Dukes.

The legendary Hog has always given great interviews, and this one didn't disappoint. Arrington asked Grimm to relay a story of one of his favorite times with the Redskins. No one should be surprised that the story he told directly involves running back John Riggins.

Probably the championship game against dallas in '82. It was in the fourth quarter, we're trying to obviously lock up the game. It's foutrh and one. Riggo says 'What do you got?' ... Riggo looks across the huddle and he says 'Grimmy what do you think?'. I said 'Hey, hit it right up my back. I can get him off the ball a yard.'

↵

The ball's snapped, I come off, I get up under him, and all of a sudden the next thing i know the light's go out.

↵

I'm laying at the bottom of the pile, the wind's knocked out of me. I'm trying to catch my breathe and I open my eyes and Riggo's facemask is right up against mine and he's smiling and he just goes 'Bullseye!'

I had a knock in the small of my back for a week and a half before the swelling went down.

I agree with LaVar. That is awesome.
