The semifinals of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic wrapped up today in Washington's Rock Creek Park, setting up an important championship match tomorrow in the run up to the U.S. Open.
David Nalbandian and Marco Baghdatis each advanced through the semifinals by winning in straight sets. Baghdatis defeated Belgian pro Xavier Malisse in the early match 6-2, 7-6, and Nalbandian rolled past Malin Cilic 6-2, 6-2.
Baghdatis appears to be the favorite. He is ranked eighth and leads the all-time series 3-1. He is going for his first tournament victory since January. Baghdatis had a poor record on grass, but is kicking off the hard court season in style advancing to the finals here in D.C.
Nalbandian has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the world, but is currently 117th. This is his first Finals appearance since January 2009.
The final is tomorrow at around 3:00, following the men's doubles final earlier in the day.
