In Love, Unlike Shot Selection, Yi Jianlian Is Very Particular

When the Washington Wizards traded for Yi Jinalian this Summer, I had a lot of questions. Not so much about his basketball ability or how he would fit with his new team -- no, mostly about his romantic interests and his feelings regarding mixed-race couples. You know, the really important stuff.

Finally, those questions have been answered. According to Asia One News, Yi is going to be very particular in picking a mate.

"I'll definitely marry a Chinese girl," the low-profile star blushes at the question. "And it is not about aesthetic stuff, I am just not that open to a mixed marriage."

More after the jump.

He also reveals that he has not been chased by any women during his long stay in America, adding that he is prepared for his encounter with the future Miss Right.

"Foreign girls are usually more passionate. And I will not push myself on it (marriage)," he says with a smile. "It is not like making a dress, which can be done overnight."

I have a few thoughts:

  • He hasn't been chased by any women since he has been in the NBA? Has every movie I've ever seen about being a professional athlete been a lie? I'm so disillusioned ...
  • Good for you, Yi. Staying patient is the best course of action. Rushing into things is how you end up with a $500 million lawsuit
  • Did he just use dress-making as a point of comparison? Either he's familiar with the process, or he watched a lot of Project Runway. I can't imagine either would go over very well in the locker room with his new teammates.
