Half Smokes Hypothetical: Nyjer Morgan's Opening Appeal Statement

New, 1 comment

Half Smokes Hypothetical is a daily discussion where we throw out a D.C. sports-related question based on the news of the day. It's a hypothetical discussion, which is what makes it fun (we hope).

As Nyjer Morgan continues to dig himself a deeper and deeper hole, I can't help but be amused at the prospect of him going into an appeal hearing next Friday to contest his seven-game suspension for throwing the ball at a fan in Philadelphia. Since that suspension was handed down, Morgan has run into two catchers, fought with his manager, instigated a big brawl, been suspended a second time and contested that suspension by claiming baseball "threw the book" at him. Other than that, he's handled himself like a true pro.

But if Morgan is going to truly contest his previous suspension, he's going to have to come up with something to make himself look good. Well, at least he has to try, right? Therefore, here's today's hypothetical.

What should Nyjer Morgan's first words be to commissioner Bud Selig next Friday? Ultimately, what do you think they will be?
