Morning Commute: Albert Haynesworth Praise Reveals Redskins' Intentions

Everything you need to know about D.C. sports in one place.

There was a lot going on in D.C. sports yesterday, with two amazing college football finishes, the emergence of Nationals' September callup Danny Espinosa and some good news about the health of Donovan McNabb. I'd love to talk about one of those things. Instead, we're here talking about Albert Haynesworth.

As you may have seen already, the Redskins have reportedly put Haynesworth on the trading block. What you may have missed, however, is that coach Mike Shanahan was pretty complimentary of Haynesworth after practice yesterday, just a couple days after team sources said Haynesworth had an "awful" performance in the final preseason game against Arizona. Shanahan told reporters that Haynesworth is "getting better" and that he "did a good job, considering he played as many plays as he did at a couple different positions."

In other words, Shanahan's message reflected little of the angst that was present over the weekend. Seems kind of odd, right? It is ... until you consider that the Redskins are reportedly looking to move Haynesworth. You can't help but wonder whether the Redskins are talking up Haynesworth in part to increase his trade value.
