The Maryland Terrapins let yet another impressive victory slip away against the No. 1 Duke Blue Devils Sunday, but the Terps are headed back to North Carolina to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a must-win game.
Four of Maryland's five losses have come to teams ranked in the preseason Top 25 and all four have come by single digits. In Maryland' s 71-64 loss to Duke, the Terps jumped out to a six-point lead early in the second half, but failed to hold on as Kyle Singler led the Blue Devils to victory. Maryland is 0-2 in ACC play and needs a win to avoid falling into the conference basement.
A vulnerable Wake Forest team could be the answer Maryland is looking for. The Demon Deacons have lost five of six and lost their ACC opener to the NC State Wolfpack. Wake Forest is the ACC's best free-throw shooting team at 77.1%, but are last in turnover margin and team defense, giving up an ACC-worst 74.8 points per game.
The Terps' chances at securing impressive victories towards the NCAA Tournament are starting to fade, but a road conference win could be just the thing they need to get back on track.
