Former Maryland Coach Ralph Friedgen Not Ruling Out NFL Openings

Ralph Friedgen is coming off a season in which he turned around the Maryland football team and won the ACC Coach Of The Year award. Even though he was fired by Maryland, he still proved that he is a fairly effective football coach. So it should be no surprise if the Fridge ends up on some sideline, somewhere, by the time late Summer rolls around.

According to Jeff Barker of the Baltimore Sun, that opportunity could come from a number of places, both at the NCAA level and the next.

I asked him about some of the college jobs he has been linked to, and where he might end up. He stopped me to make a clarificiation.

"That's in the NFL or in college," he said, not wanting to limit his possibilities.

Friedgen made his name as an offensive coach before becoming the head man at Maryland. He could still be a real asset to a team on that side of the ball. A report earlier this year had Virginia Tech thinking about the possibility of bringing Fridge aboard, but there is no word yet on what the NFL options may be. But I wouldn't expect Fridge to be watching to much football from his couch this coming year.
