Bracketology is not an actual science, but it should be. With conference play gearing up around the country and the NCAA Tournament just two months away, it's time to start making predictions for the newly expanded 68 team field.
Many local teams are in the mix for some of those spots, but what's most interesting is who is not included.
The Maryland Terrapins, currently 9-4 (0-1 in ACC play), are not included in either SB Nation's or ESPN's latest Bracketology projections. The Terps have no standout victories, but have quality losses to No. 5 Pittsburgh, No. 20 Illinois, Temple and Boston College. Maryland will have a chance to get that quality win this week when they face No. 1 Duke.
Meanwhile, the Georgetown Hoyas are listed as a No. 2 seed for SB Nation and a No. 3 seed on ESPN. Despite a 1-2 record to open Big East play, the Hoyas still have impressive wins over No. 9 Missouri, No, 21 Memphis and Old Dominion.
Two other local schools that look to sneak into the tournament are the George Mason Patriots and American University Eagles. George Mason is listed as a No. 13 seed via winning the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). American, who made the tournament in 2008 and 2009, is listed as a No. 14 seed.
